PodCamp NYC Session | The Intersection of Social Networks and New Media
One of the sessions I attended on Friday was called “The Intersection of Social Networks and New Media” and was artfully presented by Lee Gibbons, CEO and Co-Founder of Podango. It was an interesting compilation of social networking tools/sites, most of which we’ve all seen before, but put into the context of an integrated promotional strategy. Mostly aimed at self-promotion, it wouldn’t be too different if applied in a more commercial setting. I especially appreciated how Lee assigned a cost to each tactic based on the amount of money and time one would need to invest in each – as well as the value (ROI) of each. He then went on to describe each tool/site in more detail. The most important point I took away from Lee’s presentation was that your blog is “Home base for all your new media efforts.” This was an important point for me as I’ve personally been overwhelmed by the fragmentation of the social media experience… I must have at least 10 different profiles across the various networks, sites and utilities that I use. Using my blog as the central point makes alot of sense.
Check out Lee’s personal blog here. There’s an older version of his presentation there. I’m hoping he updates it with the latest deck from PodCamp shortly.
