Inspired @ PodCamp NYC…
Had to fire oof this post tonight on my great experience at PodCamp NYC today. As an online producer & marketer, my goal going to my first PodCamp was purely for the education. To see what others are doing in the space and explore how I might be able to make sound recommendations to my client(s) on how to best leverage blogs & webcasts in their campaigns. What I gleaned from PodCamp today however, was something completely different…
I was truly impressed by the collective energy at the show. Most notably, I was completely inspired by the amount of bloggers/casters out there who are so generous with their time & eager to share their experiences in the space. It didn’t matter what your background was, from musicians to lawyers to us agency folk…
I think it’s very interesting to note that Ann Marie Mathis and myself were 2 of only a very small handful of ad agency folks at the show. How can agencies be making sound recommendations to their clients without embracing and learning from this diverse and intelligent community?
I, for one, was so inspired by this that I’m making a mid-year resolution to blog much more and to possibly start a webcast myself. So far, as you can tell from my blog, I’ve not yet stuck my neck out too far. I’ve been apprehensive to write too much on any topic as I haven’t been confident enough in my expertise. What I’ve learned today is – “so what?”. Even if nobody reads/listens – what might be more important is the creation of a body of content that represents my thoughts… what I like… the value and experience that I bring to the forum. For me it’s also somewhat therapeutic to put my thoughts down. Why else would I be blabbering on about this at 1:30am on a Friday?
The net-net is that I’m gonna put myself out there, good-bad-otherwise and who knows, it might be sad, it might be funny, it might piss you off – but it’s mine. Let’s see what happens.

Thanks for coming Howard – I would be curious to know how you found out about PodcampNYC. In one sense I agree – wish there were more agency people there. OTOH, it is hard to create buzz inside communities where there are no evangelists. Looks like you have appointed yourself – kudos!
I for one am interested in more conversations across the borders between the large agencies and the small agile firms like ours. We are each seeing a different part of the elephant. Thanks for the Twitter add too – look forward to continuing the convo in various ways.
Aloha, Rox
P S You asked for some linky love; linking *out* to some sessions/people you liked would ping their sites and get more replies for you I think! Adding the hyperlinks takes more time, I agree, but IMO it is really worth it.
Thanks Rox,
I’ve been slowly going through my notes and organizing my thoughts on the sessions I attended. Trying to post while it’s still timely but haven’t had enough time. Stay tuned for more…
I’d be interested to know if the bigger agencies are sub-contracting smaller firms to do the social media work. Any insights?
