The Death of the Handshake
Take a look at this clip from Strategic Profits Live ‘08, where Gary Vaynerchuk from winelibrary.com speaks on self promotion and the importance of building your own relationships. I’ve had a few recent conversations with some of my friends and coworkers who work or play in social media – about what I call “the death of the handshake”. In my opinion, the difference between LinkedIn (and to some extent Facebook) and a good old Rolodex, is the ability for us to realize and leverage the full expanse of our own personal or business networks; and the ease of reaching out. I see too many people stopping there and not making that “handshake”.
A number of people that I follow are writing on self-promotion and reputation management in the social networking space. I find this really interesting and hopefully I’ll get to write more on this soon…
